Commercial Animal Facility Ordinance and Licensing

The Lafayette County Board of Supervisors recently enacted Lafayette County Ordinance 7-1-1.13f - Animal Regulations and Treatment of Animals.  This ordinance establishes stablishes regulations for commercial animal establishments, including Pet Dealers, Pet Breeders, Kennels, Dog Day Care facilities, Grooming Shops and other Commercial Pet Facilities.  The new ordinance requires facilities that meet the criteria described in the ordinance to apply for a required permit and inspection from the Lafayette County Humane Officer on an annual basis.  Please see the definition below, to see if your business will be affected by the new ordinance:

 

Commercial Animal Establishment.  Any person, partnership or corporation or other legal entity that has as its purpose the sale, transfer or conveyance of any animal/animal services for consideration including, but not limited to, monetary, trade or barter. It shall include, but not be limited to, any pet shop, grooming shop, boarding or breeding kennel/cattery or any establishment with the purpose of training, leasing or selling dogs.  It shall not include licensed animal hospitals who conduct standard animal medical practices that include grooming or boarding of the animal to permit the medical treatment of the animal, animal shelters or humane society facilities.
