Land Information Council
Committee Description
By State Statute this Committee is required to have at least eight members which must include the following: a County Board Member, a Local Emergency Management professional, the Land Information Officer, a Local Realtor, a Local Surveyor, the Real Property Lister, the Register of Deeds and the Treasurer. Additional land information stakeholders may also be appointed such as additional County Board Members, the Economic Development Coordinator, Public Health Administrator, Planning & Zoning Administrator, Highway Commissioner, or other members of the public. The Council is required to meet at least once annually or as needed.
The duties of the Land Information Council (LIC) are to meet the requirements (WI Statutes 16.967 & 59.72 and Administrative Rule 47) of the WI Land Information Program (WLIP) by establishing a Land Information Office, appointing a Land Information Officer and establishing countywide land information priorities in the form of the Lafayette County Land Records Modernization plan. The LIC is required to review and update the plan every three years. The LIC provides oversight of the Land Information Officer who is charged with using retained fees from recording fees in the Register of Deeds, along with additional grants from the WLIP to achieve the goals established in the three year plan.
